About Me
Design is about finding the right balance
I’ve worked from small startups, to enterprise SaaS, to consulting, and in all instances design remains the same: taking something chaotic and creating harmony.
Regardless of the company size, design will always be the practice that connects the disparate pieces of product to create something that will delight customers and drive business objectives.
I’m Ryan, a UX Designer based in Salt Lake City.
I’m driven by difficult problems and solutions that help drive user, business, and product needs. I’ve found to effectively do this, I follow these principles:
💨 Move Fast
🧩 Small, iterative investments
🤝 Involve stakeholders early
🙋🏻♂️ Always be curious
Current:
I’m working as a UX Designer and Product Manager for Clozd helping customers understand why thy win and lose deals with their customers. I’m working on a Workflow Engine to manage outreach and several feedback channels to help facilitate win-loss insights.
History:
I’ve spent 10+ years in tech working in engineering, design, and product leadership. I have a deep understanding on how to build product quickly and effectively.
I started my career as a design intern for a non-profit, uncertain what I wanted or how to get it. I was quickly notified that if I wanted to extend my internship into a contingent position (contracted for 18 months) I would need to learn and understand web development. I spent the next year learning how to build complex web applications.
Over time, I learned that I could work in both design and engineering and spent the next several years working in a hybrid role where I could continue to grow my skills.
I took a job at Workfront as a full time developer and stepped away from the day-to-day of design and focused on working on a team dedicated to building a new design system and library. We spent 3 years building a robust system to help designers and engineers work more efficiently together.
After my time there, I moved on to a Microsoft consultancy where I once again found myself in a hybrid role working on the intranet and internal communications teams working with several Fortune companies across the US. Every 2-4 weeks we were tasked with working on a company’s internal comms and data architecture, building custom solutions.
My time there was brief and I found myself allured to a small startup tasked with helping companies onboard their customers. I acted as the Director of Design and was in charge of managing 6 designers across several teams. In a matter of several months I was able to lead the team in some major initiatives, including a new design system and navigation.
Outside of Work:
When I’m not working, I’m a dad, an amateur pickleball player, dirt bike rider, skier, wake surfer, and outdoor enthusiast.
